Soccer Season Wrap-Up

By: Kyle Toler

Boys Soccer

The boys season was one of the best to date for Mingo Central under Head Coach Jared Lester.         The Miners finished the season with a record of 6-9-3 which is a school record for the most wins   in a single season. Led by seniors Noah Rhodes and Garrett Moore who went over 40 goals in           their careers this season which makes them the top two leading scorers in program history.            Garrett went on to obtain a career milestone of 50 career goals during the second round of the     sectional/regional tournament against Bluefield. Mikey Evans recorded the schools longest goal in Mingo Central history which was a 41 yard goal in a 3-3 tie against Poca. It was also the first         time the Miners have had their number of losses in single digits in a season. The Miners finished off the season by winning their first ever tournament game which was a 9-2 win vs Independence High School. The Miners run was cut short ending with a loss to Bluefield. Coach Lester said  "  I'm   very proud of my boys and team this season. Very hard workers and they set the tone for future     teams to keep working hard and build on this years success!  "

Girls Soccer

The Girl's Soccer Team finished the season with a record of 0-18 under first year Head Coach              Michele Vance. When asked about the season Coach Vance said "We had a rough season with me having to step up and be he Head Coach when we didn't have one. I had some soccer knowledge            and did my best. My girls were all at different skill levels from 1 to 2 years of playing experience. We were young and inexperienced but these girls played hard and never gave up no matter how      bad the score was. They had the sportsmanship of any team I have ever seen. They played with         heart and dedication. I will be better prepared as Head Coach next year and expect to have a                winning season! I am very proud of these girls and expect great things from them next year." The    experience will be improved next season and the Lady Miners are going to be a solid contender                                                                           under Coach Vance next season.
